ABOUT THE  COMPETITION
 
Q. What is Disney Channel My School Rocks! 2012?
A. Disney Channel My School Rocks! 2012 is an inter-school dance competition held in Malaysia for students aged 7-17 years old.
   
Q. When does the contest start?
A. Registration starts on 1 April, 2012 to 18 April, 2012 and the auditions will be held in four states, following are the audition dates along with the locations:

 
- Perak  16 June, 2012
- Sabah 23 June  2012
- Johor 30 June 2012
- Selangor & KL 7 July to 8 July, 2012

For those schools which are not in the audition states you can submit your entry online to

. All you need to do is to record your team’s performance and submit the video via our website, www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR
   
Q. What is the format of the competition?
A.
  1. Interested schools can register school dance teams, with each team consisting of a minimum 3 students or maximum 8 students. There would be two categories this time:
    1. Primary Category: 7 to 12 years old
    2. Secondary Category: 13 to 17 years old.
  1. Registration can be done via audition forms downloadable from
    www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR
    .
  1. Auditions will be held in four (4) states and participating school teams can attend auditions at the nearest audition venue to their schools. Schools located outside Perak, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur / Selangor and Johor can join the competition by submitting their videos to
    www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR .
  1. Four school dance teams per category will be short-listed by the judges to be the finalists at the audition venues and one online submission dance  team per category will be short-listed by the judges to be the finalist. There will be ten (10) finalists in all – five (5) for Primary category and five (5) for secondary category.
  1. The five (5) finalists of each category will be announced on Disney Channel on 28 July 2012. 
  1. The winning school team from each category will be determined through public online voting from 28 July to 12 August 2012. The performances of the 10 finalists will be shown on air on Disney Channel and online on www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR. You can log on to
    www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR
    to vote for your favourite team during this period. Judges points will also determine the selection of final winners.
  1. The final school team winners of My School Rocks! 2012 – one from each category will be announced on Disney Channel on 25 August 2012. There will be two winners for Disney Channel My School Rocks! 2012 – Primary school winning team and secondary school winning team.
  1. The winning teamof each category will get an all-expense paid trip for three (3) days and two (2) nights at Hong Kong Disneyland. The trip will include each team member and two (2) teachers who helped the team in their performance. Plus each winning team member and the teacher in the team can also bring along one friend or family member for the trip.
   
Q. What are the entry criteria(s)?
A.
  • Each school can register a maximum of two (2) teams, but no team should have any repeat students.
  • Each team must choreograph an original dance performance to song from the following Disney Channel show or Original movie albums:
  - Camp Rock   - High School Musical
  - Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam - High School Musical 2
  - Hannah Montana The Movie  - High School Musical 3 Senior Year
  - Hannah Montana Forever  - Jonas LA
  - Hannah Montana 2    - Phineas & Ferb
  - Shake It Up! Break it Down - Lemonade Mouth
  • No editing or remixes is allowed and the team has to dance to the complete selected song. School dance teams cannot perform for half of the song or any other song from any other albums. Please check the album to confirm the right songs. No school dance team can combine more than one song to make a new compilation.
  • Each team must have a minimum of three (3) students and not more than eight (8) students.
  • Each participant must be between :
    - Primary category: seven (7) to twelve (12) years old
    - Secondary category:  thirteen (13) to seventeen (17) years old
Performance by each team should not exceed the duration of the selected song.
   
Q. On what criteria will the audition be judged on?
A. Selection process will be conducted by Disney Channel & its appointed judges for the contest. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence and/or objection will be entertained. Participants will be judged on the following areas:

Choreography - 30%

The judges will be looking for well-executed, synchronised dance moves. Original and creative dance routines will definitely catch the judges’ eyes.

Showmanship - 30%
Judges will look out for enthusiastic participants who give an energetic performance that is entertaining and leave the audience wanting more.

Props and Costumes - 20%

The concept and creativity of the costume design and the use of props will account for 20% of the marks awarded. Judges will be looking for costumes and props that are creative and appropriate for the theme based on their songs.

Teamwork & Sportsmanship - 10%

A display of good teamwork and rapport during the performance will be part of the consideration.

Dance Concept - 10%

A good key message and performance concept well delivered to the audience.
   
Q.  Is there an age limit?
A. Yes, all participants must be between seven (7) to seventeen (17) years old. All participants must obtain permission from a parent or guardian before entering.
   
Q. Must we have both boys and girls in the team?
A. You can choose to have only boys, only girls or both boys and girls in your team.
   
Q. Do I have to be a Disney Channel subscriber to take part?
A. No, you do not have to be a Disney Channel subscriber in Malaysia to participate in the audition.
   
Q. My parents are out of town. They cannot help me to sign the authorization before I enter the competition, can I provide it later?
A. We’re afraid not. All release forms for the participants have to be signed upon registration by either their parent or a guardian (21 years old or above) appointed by the parent.
   
Q. Can my friends and I sign up for the competition on our own?
A. Sorry, we only accept registration from the school directly.  The school has to appoint a teacher/ counselor/ coach as a point of contact for Disney Channel.
   
Q. Can I sign up for more than one entry?
A. Multiple entries per person are not allowed. Each school can send in two (2) teams per school but you can only be part of one team via your school.
   
Q. Do I stand a higher chance if I join different groups or if I take part in the different auditions in the various cities?
A. No. You are only entitled to join one dance team and to register your name once for the entire contest. You will only be allowed to participate in a one-time audition in Malaysia or submit online if your school is not within the audition states.
 
ABOUT THE GRAND PRIZE
 
Q. What does our team get if we win the Grand Prize?
A. The winning school team and two (2) teachers who have helped to choreograph and coach the team will be flown to Hong Kong, an all-expense paid trip for three (3) days and two (2) nights at Hong Kong Disneyland. The trip will include each team member and two (2) teachers who helped the team in their performance. Plus everyone in the group can also bring along one friend or family member for the trip.
   
Q. If I win, will we have to pay for any travel expenses for the trip?
A. No.  Disney Channel will cover the flights and accommodations for your team and two (2) teachers who have helped to choreograph and coach your team. Plus your one friend or family member for the trip.
   
Q. How long can we stay in Hong Kong if we win?
A. You’ll be in Hong Kong for a total of three (3) days and two (2) nights.
   
Q. When is the trip expected to take place?
A. The trip details will be shared at a later date.
   
Q. Can I adjust the traveling schedule if we win? 
A. Yes, you can adjust the traveling schedule. However, once air tickets and hotel booking are confirmed, no adjustment is allowed.
   
Q. If I don’t have a valid passport, am I eligible for the competition?
A. Yes, you’re eligible for the contest; however, you have to apply for a passport on your own time and expenses.
   
Q. If I don’t have a valid Hong Kong Visa, am I eligible for the contest?
A. Yes, you’re eligible for the contest. However, you have to apply Hong Kong visa on your own time and expenses.
   
Q. How will the winner be notified?
A. The winning team will be notified via telephone followed by an official letter from Disney Channel.
   
Q. Will our trip to be seen on TV?
A. No. Your trip will not be filmed by Disney Channel.
   
Q. If I win, can I bring my family?  I've never been away from home by myself!
A. Yes, you can bring one friend or family member!
 
ABOUT THE FINALISTS’ PRIZES
 
Q. What do the ten (10) finalists teams get?
A. Each finalist of Disney Channel My School Rocks! 2012 will receive an exclusive Disney Channel goodie bag for each team member. Each school will also receive a set of musical instruments to support the school’s music curriculum.
 
ABOUT THE REGISTRATION FOR AUDITIONS
 
Q. When does the registration start?
A. Registration starts on 1 April to 18 May 2012 and the auditions will be held on the following dates and states:

Q. When is the closing date for registration? How do I take part/register for the contest?
A. All contest forms need to be fully completed, mailed & reach the mailing address (see below) on/or before 18 May 2012 to qualify for the competition.

Interested schools can download the forms at www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR. You can also register online on this site, and then Disney Channel team will get in touch with you later. Representative of each school should download the school entry and release form from the website. The form needs to be signed by authorized representative from the school.

The duly filled up form signed by the school should be sent to:

Q. Do we get early bird prizes for sending the registration early?
A. Yes, you will. The first fifty (50) schools to confirm with the forms with two teams will get to have a personalized dance training session with an experienced trainer.
   
Q. What is it in the workshop?
A. You will get a chance to be coached by an experienced trainer to enhance your choreography and dance routine. The workshop will be done in the first fifty (50) schools that send in the audition forms duly filled up.
   
Q. We are not confident to do dance choreography on our own, can the trainer choreograph a dance for our team during the workshop?
A.  Your team should have a concept and selected song in mind when you come for the workshop. The choreographer will not choreograph a dance routine for your team. You may ask for his/ her assistance to give you tips and dance routines to enhance your choreography. The choreographer will also share tips on how to perform on stage, build a concept, teach new steps and also enhance team work.
 
REGISTRATION CONFIRMATION FOR  AUDITION
 
Q. What happens after we finish the registration process?
A. The participating school teams will be notified of their successful registration via an official letter from Disney Channel’s appointed event organizer. All participating schools should receive this official confirmation no later than 14 June 2012.

Q. What happens after we receive this formal registration confirmation letter?
A. The participating schools will receive their registration confirmation with more information about the audition and the appointed event organizer’s contact details. Follow the instructions stated in this registration confirmation pack and turn up for the audition at the location and reporting time assigned to your school. Before that, you’ll need lots of rehearsals with your team! We look forward to seeing you on the BIG day!
 
ABOUT THE ONLINE SUBMISSION
 
Q. When does the registration start?
A. Registration starts on 1 April to 18 May 2012.
   
Q. If I submit our dance performance online, do we need to go for an audition?
A. No, your submission will be shortlisted and scored by the judges accordingly. If your video is the highest score amongst all the online submissions for that category, your team will be one of the finalists for Disney Channel’s My School Rocks! 2012.
   
Q. The on ground audition is happening in my city, but my team wishes to join via online submission. Can we do so?
A. We’re afraid not. You are encouraged to join -audition if you stay in the audition’s state.
   
Q. When is the closing date for registration? How do I take part/register for the competition?

A. There’s no early bird prizes for submitting the video early; however do send in your video before 15 June 2012 to be eligible for the competition.

Q. In what format, should we submit our video?
A. For online submission, the video should be no larger than 8 MB in file size.
   
Q. If we’re shortlisted as the finalists, will my video be featured on Disney Channel?
A. Yes, your video will be featured on Disney Channel and online on www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR for public voting.
   
Q. We don’t have a high quality video camera to record our performance, will our video be not considered due to the low quality video?
A. Your video will be judged based on the criteria mentioned above. Please note that you must also ensure that your team conforms to the criteria listed below:

Lastly just make sure that your video films the full performance of your team and captures your entire team members in it so that the judge can watch your team’s dance performance.
   
Q. What will happen if my video is selected as the finalist?
A. If your video is selected as one of the finalists, Disney Channel will visit you and your team in your hometown to record your performance. You can prepare costume and props for the recording to enhance your performance!
   
Q. Do I stand a higher chance if I join the competition  via online and  also join the auditions? Or if I take part in the different auditions in the various states?
A. No. You are only entitled to join one dance team on either online or going for one audition and to register your name once for the entire competition.
 
ABOUT THE AUDITION
 
Q. Can I do editing on the songs by remixing or shortening the music?
A. No, you have to use the full songs from following albums/single:

- Camp Rock   - High School Musical
- Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam - High School Musical 2
- Hannah Montana The Movie  - High School Musical 3 Senior Year
- Hannah Montana Forever  - Jonas LA
- Hannah Montana 2    - Phineas & Ferb
- Shake It Up! Break it Down - Lemonade Mouth

You can refer to the album cover as well as the track list of each album on
www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR . You cannot do any editing on the songs by remixing or shortening the songs. You can only use full song from the albums.
   
Q. Do I need to bring my own CD?
A. There’s no need for you to bring your own CD. We will have the CD for your audition, however you need to fill up the audition form with the song title and the album name that you will use for the audition.
   
Q. Where and when will the auditions be held?
A. There will be a face-to-face auditions to be held tentatively at the following dates and cities below. The exact venue(s) will be designated by Disney Channel.
- Perak 16 June, 2012
- Sabah 23 June  2012
- Johor 30 June 2012
- Selangor & KL 7 July to 8 July, 2012

Q. Can I choose my preferred audition venue?
A. No. You have to attend the audition based in the state where your school is located.
   
Q. If I have to travel to the audition venue, will Disney Channel pay for any costs incurred?
A. No. Participants/Schools who accept the invitation to the audition also agree to attend the audition as abovementioned. All participants/schools who attend the audition shall bear their own travel costs and all other expenses incurred to and during the audition.
   
Q. If I cannot attend the audition, can I come on another day?
A. No, Disney Channel will not arrange for another audition. Any team/participants that are unable to attend the audition shall be considered as withdrawing from the competition voluntarily.
   
Q. Do my parents/legal guardians need to be attending the audition with me?
A. It’ll be nice to have your supporters on site during the audition. Participants are allowed to be accompanied by their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) to the audition and they agree to be filmed during the audition by signing the appropriate release forms to be provided by Disney.
   
Q. I know that everyone who participates in the contest audition will get a Disney Channel gift. Can I choose the gift?
A. Afraid not!  It’s on a “while stocks last” basis.
   
Q. If my group is short-listed to be one of the ten finalists, when will we be informed?
A. The short-listed finalists will be announced at the end of the audition in each state. All participants are required to be at the audition venue on the final day for the announcement.
   
Q. How long do I have to stay at the audition?
A. You’ll be required to stay at the audition until the short listed finalist has been announced at the venue
(i.e. end of the final day of the audition).
   
Q. Why should I come back for the Final day for the announcement?
A. Your team should come back on the Final day to find out if you have been short listed as the finalist.  The short listed team will have to give an encore performance that will be recorded and shown on Disney Channel for viewers to vote.
   
Q. How many teams will be short listed for the finals not including the online submission?
A. There will be five (4) teams from each category (Primary & Secondary) shortlisted for the finals. So in all, eight (8) finalists will be shortlisted from the auditions, two (2) from each venue.
   
Q. Who are the celebrity judges?
A. The celebrity judges will be Linda Jasmine and Sazzy.
   
Q. Will there be make-up and costumes provided during the audition?
A. Afraid not. All make-up and costumes will have to be provided by participants and its participating schools for the audition.
   
Q. Will I get to be seen on TV?
A. You never know! Disney Channel will be filming the auditions and if you’re one of the lucky participants, yes you will!
   
Q. Will there be meals & refreshment be provided for the participants & supporters during the audition?
A. Yes, some snacks will be provided for the school teams and the teachers.  
   
Q. Will tickets be required for our supporters if they wish to attend the audition? If yes, do they need to pay for it?
A. No, there is no entry fee to come for the auditions. All supporters are welcome to join the participants at the auditions.
   
Q. Aside from the Grand Prize for the winners, are there other prizes during the audition?
A. Yes, there are! There will be audition prizes for following categories:

- Best State Primary team             - Best State Secondary team               
- 1st Runner Up Primary team - 1st Runner Up Secondary team        
- 2nd Runner Up Primary team - 2nd Runner Up Secondary team       
- Best Teacher Choreographer Primary team - Best Teacher Choreographer Secondary team

And every day there will be prizes for the following categories

- Best Cheerleading Primary category - Best Cheerleading Secondary category      
- Best Dance Concept Primary category - Best Dance Concept Primary category
- Best Costume Primary category - Best Costume Secondary category
   
  And there is also prize for the school with the Most Supporters on each audition day.
 
VOTING CONTEST FOR THE GRAND PRIZE WINNER OF MY SCHOOL ROCKS
 
Q. How can I participate in the voting?
A. Voting for your favorite team (among the 10 short listed finalists) starts from 28 July to 12 August 2012. You can log on to www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR to vote!
   
Q. Do I get to win any prizes for voting?
A. No, there are no prizes for voting.
   
Q. Do I have to be a Disney Channel subscriber to take part in the voting?
A. No. You do not have to be a Disney Channel subscriber in Malaysia to take part in the voting. However, you may need to register on www.disneychannel-asia.com/MSR before voting. Registration is free.
   
Q. How many times can I vote?
A. You can vote as many times as you like, However, only unique votes will be counted and valid for the contest.
   
Q. When will the Grand prize winning teams be notified?
A. The Grand Prize Winning Team and the four Runner-Up Teams for each category will be announced on Disney Channel on 25 August 2012.
